After you get the carpet ripped up, you have some choices.
Pet stores carry products with enzymes in for this problem.
My product of choice is a cleaner called odoban.
The one at walmart is premixed and ready to use.
If you get the concentrated one, mix according to the directions with plain water.
Apply it to the sub floor with either a spray bottle or a sponge and let it soak right in.
The enzymes in the cleaner destroy the odor causing urine crystals.
Open the windows and all that.
This cleaner is pretty strong smelling too!
Then after the product has had a chance to soak in, give the area a good scrubbing with the same stuff and keep the air flow going for at least a couple of days.
You can clean the carpet with the same stuff.
Then rinse it well with the hose and let it dry in the sunshine for a day or two.
You may end up having to replace the sub floor and the carpet if the damage is extensive.
